The Private Pilot Licence is a major step on the way to becoming a Commercial Pilot. Most Basair students enrol in the full Commercial Pilot Licence course, however students are also welcome to join the CPL course for the first 4 months and complete just up to their PPL.
PPL students attend the GFPT and PPL theory classes with the full time CPL students. This way they benefit from the in-depth approach to theory and the development of flying skills that Basair employees to teach career-orientated commercial pilots.

GFPT Stage
During this stage students fly only in Cessna 152s and they learn how to handle the aircraft through simple manoeuvres.
The GFPT stage concludes when students pass the General Flying Progress Test, which should be after about 8 weeks.
Learn more about the GFPT stage, such as the flying curriculum and the theory schedule on the GFPT page of our website.
PPL Stage
During this stage, students learn how to navigate and they start to take larger aircraft such as Cessna 172s or Piper Warriors on longer trips.
The PPL stage concludes when students pass the Private Pilot License flying test, which should take another 8 weeks.
Learn more about the PPL stage, such as the flying curriculum and the theory schedule on the PPL page of our website.
Where to Next?
Students are allowed to "upgrade" to the Commercial Pilot Licence course before the end of the Private Pilot Licence course. Note that theory for the CPL students starts before their PPL course is finished - so students should not wait until the end of the course to upgrade.
