The Instructor Rating Course (IRC) is a 10 week course designed to get students through their Flight Instructor Rating assessment with CASA, and prepare them for their career as an instructor.

An instructor rating is one of the best ways to sharpen flying skills and enhance discipline, accuracy and proficiency. Additionally, completing an instructor rating increases the options that trainees have to get a job on graduation. There are many instructing jobs offered around Australia each year.

At Basair we offer the most comprehensive and well organised instructor rating available, at a very competitive cost. Courses are conducted on our premises in our comfortable and spacious air conditioned classrooms, especially designed for aviation training.

At Basair we want to produce the highest quality Grade III instructor possible at the end of their course.

The training you receive during your instructor rating training will provide the fundamentals of all your future lessons - so it is of vital importance that you start on solid ground. For this reason we do not offer a “cut down” course available at many schools. We only offer a quality course that is thorough, and will place you in the best position to obtain employment afterwards

Instructor Rating candidates must hold, before the start of the course;

• a current Australian Commercial Pilot Licence.
• either a current Australian Night VFR Rating, OR a current Australian Command Instrument Rating.
• a current Class 1 medical

The Grade III instructor rating course includes the following :

• “Principles and Methods of Instruction” ground theory course.
• Seminar on instructor privileges and responsibilities.
• Seminar on flying school operations.
• All long and pre-flight briefing demonstrations.
• All long and pre-flight briefing read backs.
• All dual and mutual flights.
• Materials - overhead transparencies, pens, whiteboard pens.
• Flight test.

Although not required, we suggest that all instructor rating candidates wear a uniform during their course. This is to ensure the trainee feels and acts like a professional instructor while on the course. This will help them fit into a flying school environment on completion of their course.

The Instructor Rating course is quite demanding, and you will be required to complete around 10 hours of additional work outside class time each week. This work involves the preparation of your briefings and lesson plans, so that you can then spend time in the classroom practicing the delivery of these lessons. There is also 50 hours of flight training during the course.
