BAK Theory

Basair Aviation College is distinctive in its delivery of theory.  The Basic Aeronautical Knowledge (BAK) module is delivered over 105 hours and covers;

  • Aerodynamics
  • Performance
  • Meteorology
  • Human Factors
  • Navigation
  • Air Law
  • Aircraft General Knowledge

The theory is delivered in a dynamic and interesting way.  There are several case studies of accidents, many class activities with hands on learning, videos, trips to maintenance companies, practical demonstrations and all lectures are delivered with powerpoint teaching aids.

Lectures go for 3 hours, with a short break half way through.  Students are required to do the pre-reading before each lecture, which may include studying a case study of an accident.

The course has been designed for students that aspire to be commercial pilots, and therefore covers the content in a greater depth than typicall BAK courses. The aim of the course is not just to get students to pass the BAK exam, but to give students a deep understanding of the concepts and a passion for all aspects of aviation.  When students graduate from the BAK course, they can continue their journey to the Private Pilot Licence theory course and then the Commercial Pilot Licence theory course.

Students have five in-house assessments during the course, to get feedback on their progress.  At the completion of the course, students will be well placed to get an excellent mark in their Basic Aeronautical Knowledge exam.

The theory schedule is set out below.
